Douyin group, a subsidy of bytedance, owner of both tiktok and its chinese sister app douyin, is planning to build a hospital in beijing, china, according to weibo, china's twitter equivalent.
The beijing municipal health commission published a statement on its website confirming that it had accepted douyin group's request to establish a hospital in chaoyang district, dubbed beijing arion.
According to the published version, it will be a for-profit comprehensive tertiary hospital with over 800 beds, as well as a joint venture with foreign investors.
It is bytedance's first venture into healthcare or hospitals that began in 2020 after purchasing baikemy.com and launching its own healthcare service app xiaohe in xiaohe.
The amcare women's and children's hospital, a high-end private healthcare company, was acquired by bytedance before launching livestream e-commerce on douyin.
Douyin has yet to convert enough traffic to sales or xiaohe customers, according to pundits.
The application was not for a new hospital, but an extension of existing amcare facilities.
2025 dao insights ‐ you can see how douyin's offline healthcare presence has grown by building a new hospital or other means, but the biggest question for the social media giant is how to succeed.
